Sebaraya Tech – Your laptop shows full Wi-Fi bars, yet every page fails to load. “Connected, no internet” means your device reached the router, but the router isn’t passing traffic to the internet, or your device didn’t get the right network settings from it.
The fix depends on which side is broken. This guide starts with a 30-second test, then walks through the official fixes for Windows 11, iPhone, and Android 12 and later, ordered from safest to most drastic.
Find Out Where the Problem Is
Check another device on the same Wi-Fi. If nothing can get online, the problem is the router, the modem, or your internet provider, not your laptop or phone.
If other devices work fine, the problem is on the one device that can’t connect. Skip the router steps and go straight to the section for your device.
| What you see | Likely cause | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| No device can get online | Router, modem, or provider outage | Restart the modem and router |
| Only one device fails | That device’s settings | Forget and rejoin the network |
| Windows shows a 169.254 address | Device got no IP address from the router | Renew the IP address |
Restart the Modem and Router Properly
Microsoft lists a full power cycle as one of the first fixes, in this order:
- Unplug the router’s power cable, then the modem’s.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug in the modem first and wait until its lights stop blinking.
- Plug in the router and give both a few minutes to start fully.
If you have a single combined modem-router, restart just that one box. If nothing works afterward, contact your provider, since there may be an outage.
Fix It on Windows 11
Try these in order and test the connection after each one:
- Run the Network and Internet troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off in Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode.
- Forget the network: Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select it, choose Forget, then reconnect with the password.
- Turn off any manual proxy in Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
Renew the IP Address
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these one at a time:
- ipconfig /release
- ipconfig /renew
- ipconfig /flushdns
Run ipconfig afterward. An address starting with 169.254 means Windows still isn’t getting an address from the router, so check that DHCP is turned on in the router settings.
If that fails, reset the network stack with netsh winsock reset, then netsh int ip reset, and repeat the three ipconfig commands.
Fix It on iPhone
- In Settings > Wi-Fi, confirm a blue checkmark next to your network and that Airplane Mode is off.
- If your router offers both bands, try the 5 GHz network instead of 2.4 GHz.
- Uninstall any VPN or security app temporarily, restart, and test again.
A “No Internet Connection” note under the network name means the Wi-Fi link itself is fine; Apple points to the router or network settings as the next place to look.
Fix It on Android
On Android 12 and later, swipe down from the top, touch and hold Internet, then tap Reset. This ends any active call, so don’t do it mid-conversation.
Still stuck? Go to Settings > Network & internet > Internet, touch and hold the saved network, tap Forget, and join again with the password.
Menu names vary on Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, and other brands. Search “Wi-Fi” or “Reset” in Settings if the path doesn’t match.
Last Resort Resets and Their Risks
Network resets erase saved Wi-Fi passwords, so write down the ones you need first.
On Windows, Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset removes and reinstalls your network adapters. You may need to reinstall VPN software afterward.
On iPhone, Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings erases Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and cellular, VPN, and APN settings. If your work or school set up the network, ask their IT team before resetting.
If a reset doesn’t help and other devices also fail, it’s time to call your internet provider.
Next time it happens, test a second device before touching any settings. That one check tells you which half of this guide you need.
